Film Review - Revenge of the Pink Panther
If there is one movie I will remember Peter Sellers for, this is the one. I'll admit, I love his roles in Dr. Strangelove, but Clouseau in Revenge of the Pink Panther is Peter Sellers at his silliest.
Sellers is once again playing Clouseau, a bumbling French policeman who succeeds in spite of his stupidity. In this incarnation of the Pink Panther film, Clouseau is a target of assassination. He proves that it doesn't matter how smart you are, if you're trying to kill an idiot, you're probably going to get hurt.
Clouseau also fancies himself a master of disguise. He is outrageous playing a pirate whose inflatable parrot keeps losing its air, only to be pumped up so much that the bird goes shooting off Clouseau's shoulder. Whatever Clouseau does, he is innocent of heart, which makes this slapstick enjoyable. If he were mean-spirited, we wouldn't bother.
This isn't a great commentary of post-war France. There's no hidden meaning. It's just funny.
