Film Review - Cell, The
There are two great reasons to see this film.
The first reason is Jennifer Lopez. Lopez always seems to find the roles that make her shine. In this case she plays a shrink who is trying to help a boy out of his personal coma hell by using technology to reach him. What works in this role is that the Shrink in not an expert in the technology. She isn't a wirehead. She's just trying to help.
She is enlisted by the FBI to help save the life of a trapped woman. Only a psychopath knows where she is, but now he's in a coma. The shrink volunteers to enter his mind to discover the doomed woman's location.
The second reason to see The Cell is the wonderful depiction of the psychopath's mind. This is a surreal world that can change in an instant.
The rest of the film are just the in-between pieces of glue that hold the rest together. The shrink's solution in the film's climax has an interesting heaven and hell concept.
The Cell is unusual without going off the deep end. It can be frightening in places and inspiring in others. This is quite a stretch for a Hollywood film.
