 Film Review - Event Horizon

Step Away From The Movie Theatre!

What's that smell? Oh, it's the movie. I thought the dog was sick.

Event Horizon probably looked good on paper. But then so did Kennedy's Dallas trip. Event Horizon is an Alien wannabe that turns stupid. The Event Horizon is a spaceship that has Boldly Gone Where No One Has Gone Before, then came back after everyone who was Bold was a Goner. Of course, this means Sam Neill, whose little brain designed the ship, has to go out and find a new way to kill more Bold people.

The visual design will remind you a little of Alien, but the story will make you think Barb Wire was an incredible cinematic event. This film is just plain stupid, with story elements that go nowhere, sets that make no practical sense on a spaceship, and as much fake blood as I've seen in years. Alien had the same haunted House in Outer Space theme but hit the mark.

What's good about this film?

I will note the performance of Kathleen Quinlan as the ship's doctor. Ms. Quinlan does convince you she is on a spaceship and scared to death. It is the most genuine thing in all of Event Horizon and the rest of this failure cannot be blamed on the actress.

For the Truly Twisted At Heart,

for those of you whom I haven't been able to discourage, here's a suggested menu of food to eat during the show.

  • Spaghetti in Red Sauce
  • Lasagne
  • Tapioca Pudding (during the eye-coughing scene)
  • Clam Chowder

As for the rest of you, Step Away From The Movie Theatre!

Sucks and Blows!
