Film Review - Karate Kid, The
What this movie did for my Tai Chi class! As we calmly practice Wave Hands Like Clouds, and my Master walks past, I whisper, "Wax on, wax off." At which time he decides to teach a new lesson ...on me!
The Karate Kid is the classic underdog film. Young Daniel is being bullied by the local punks who are studying karate from the local punk karate master. All they are taught is fighting with no mercy. Any true martial artist will tell you that is not what karate is about.
In the sprit of "If you can't beat them, then learn to beat them," Daniel finds and is befriended by another karate master, one who understands the true meaning of honor and victory.
Since this is a formula picture, you can guess what happens in the final scene. This movie is a bit monotonous and poorly paced. The Eastern philosophy gently taught without a lot of dogma is the best feature of this picture.
