Film Review - Once Upon a Time in Mexico
Like a lot of Americans, I really dig ultra violent films where it's good guys kicking bad guys' butts. That's what the El Mariachi series is all about.
The film begins as Desperado did. The legend of El Mariachi is told to a bar tender. Then many bad guys are killed.
It takes a while before the major plot (revenge) begins. El Mariachi's wife and daughter have been killed by a power-hungry General who is now plotting a coups'd'etat. El Mariachi will stop the coups and exact revenge for his family.
Oh, now don't think I just ruined this movie for you. This is a thin plot. The pay is in the violence. How much ammo does a gun hold? How fast can you reload? This is strictly a moral lead fest that makes Dirty Harry look like a pacifist.
If you hate violence stay away. If you dig the thin moral play with bullets flying everywhere, this film is for you.
