Film Review - One, The
There can be only one, and it's Highlander. Here it is folks, a complete rip off.
So scientists have discovered that there are multiple universes, and each of us has a counter-part in each universe. Jumping from universe to universe is strictly controlled.
So this fella named Yulaw (Jet Li) used to be a multiverse cop until he learned that the death of one of his counter-parts made him stronger. Yulaw goes on a killing spree, becoming stronger with every murder he commits. Okay so that's sort of like the quickening from Highlander, lop off a head get stronger. This idea doesn't work, because none of us feels any stronger when we get old and our counter-parts start dying off.
The strength of a counter-part who dies is equally distributed among the remaining counter-parts. This means Gabriel, the last counter-part, is a formidable enemy. So the rest of this movie is Jet Li fighting himself, poorly. There are parts of the fight scenes that are just plain boring.
The computer graphics don't work. Anything that is computer generated appears to float on a layer above the film rather than being embedded in the scene.
Honestly, I'd recommend you just watch Highlander. This movie isn't nearly as much fun, isn't as exciting, and you aren't going to be quoting this film ten years from now.
