Film Review - Pitch Black
Pitch Black is a really poor rip-off of Alien. A space cruiser is knocked off course and crash lands on a planet with three suns. It just so happens that the once in 23 year eclipse of all of those suns is about to happen. When that does, horrible man-eating creatures come out of the bowels of the planet to eat the survivors of the shipwreck.
Sound fun? You're just fooling yourself! This is a poorly crafted story. There's no logic here. What do these critters eat for the other 23 years? The eclipse is just too contrived. Finally, there isn't one person in this film worth getting emotionally attached to. This film is just a short diversion. If if were a food, it would have no nutritional value.
At least Alien had a certain logic (greedy corporation wants weapon), a hero we liked (Ripley), a real biology to the Alien species (eggs lay dormant until food arrives). Alien made sense and was a great haunted house in space movie. So you're better off renting Alien than you are watching Pitch Black.
