Penny Marshall Finally Made a Movie That Sucks!
Who Knew? Penny Marshall, in my opinion, is one of the five best directors in Hollywood. What happened?
The Preacher's Wife is a remake of the 1947 film The Bishop's Wife. Unlike the original, this remake is required to shovel at least five Whitney Houston songs into the mix so someone can release an album. Apparently, someone took a hatchet to the story because it doesn't make much sense.
There's this preacher see. And this preacher has a problem.
And the preacher asks God for help.
And help arrives in the person of an angel.
And the angel tries to help the preacher.
And the preacher doesn't believe in the angel.
And the angel keeps trying to help the preacher with his problem.
OK, I have a question.
Fire away, Sparky.
What's the problem?
Ah ha! That's the problem with this story. The audience is kept in the dark about what is wrong! Meanwhile Whitney, in the title role, is singing away.
I honestly think what killed this film is someone's desire to release an album. I like Whitney Houston, but if she wanted to do an album, then she should have just done an album.
This film is a disaster!
